The Pixel 8a arrives bootloader-unlocked and rooted with KernelSU Next on a GKI kernel built with SUSFS. Root lives in the kernel rather than in a patched boot image, and SUSFS hides root traces from apps that look for them.

Root setup

KernelSU Next manager installed; root is granted only to the apps you allow
SUSFS built into the kernel, with its companion module for settings
Runs Magisk-style modules. Zygisk modules such as LSPosed work once you add a Zygisk provider (for example ReZygisk or NeoZygisk)
Play Integrity: basic and device checks can pass with the right modules, but results change whenever Google updates its checks. STRONG integrity, which Google Wallet tap-to-pay and some banking apps need, isn't possible on a rooted phone, and we don't sell keyboxes
The bootloader stays unlocked, as root requires
